This course provides an in depth discussion of digestive disorders from a Kanpo perspective. There are many unique features to the Kanpo system, in particular the key role played by abdominal diagnosis (Fukushin). Conditions covered range in breadth as related to the Gastrointestinal (GI) tract, e.g. excessive thirst, GERD, gastritis, IBS, and hepatitis.
The workshop will focus on two distinct but related clinical approaches: 1) The treatment of named (western) GI disorders and the appropriate formula differentiations. 2) The assessment and treatment of constitutional diagnoses involving the GI system. For each case, formulas will be discussed in terms of their Clinical Pattern (Sho), including Constitutional Patterns (Taishitsu Sho), signs and symptoms and especially Abdominal Conformation (Fuku Sho).

Seminar Structure
Day 1
We begin with a review of the history, terminology, and theory of Kanpo and discuss basic palpation protocols (Fukushin). In the afternoon, discussion centers on common gastrointestinal conditions and the appropriate formulas, including the corresponding abdominal patterns.
Day 2
We begin with a brief review of palpation protocols and practice Fukushin in pairs. The majority of the day continues the discussion of common GI conditions. Opportunity for clinical theatre is provided with Nigel working on attendees and discussing his process. The seminar concludes with ample time for discussion, questions and answers.
